  • Used for over 20 years, METACAM has helped control osteoarthritis pain in dogs in over 30 countries.
  • Syringe calibrated by body weight in pounds makes dosing convenient

  • Easily applied to the dog's food or given directly into the dog’s mouth
  • Ease of use makes it ideal for improved client compliance

Osteoarthritis (OA):

While dogs experience pain just like you or me, they don’t often show it. That's why it’s up to your veterinarian to try to identify and minimize pain and increase comfort by offering pain medication.

Just like people, many dogs suffer from osteoarthritis (OA). Also known as degenerative joint disease, OA is a condition in which the joints become inflamed, swollen, and painful. Dogs with mild OA may have slight stiffness of the joints. Those with more severe disease may have limping and lameness. Sadly, most osteoarthritic dogs have some loss of mobility due to pain. The bones and joints most commonly affected are the hips, knees, elbows, shoulders, and spine.

The good news is that veterinarians can prescribe METACAM for dogs living with OA pain to help them find relief and get them back to doing the things they love.

Why METACAM?

METACAM Oral Suspension is an ideal choice for bigger dogs with osteoarthritis.

  • Individualized dosing ensures that each dog receives precisely what they need
  • METACAM is a surprisingly good fit for a dog owner’s pocketbook
  • Titration to the lowest effective dose can help owners save even more
  • The Partners in Compliance owner loyalty program drives clients back into your clinic for refills

How to use METACAM?

Administer initially as a single dose at 0.09 mg/lb (0.2 mg/kg) body weight on the first day of treatment.

For all treatments after day 1, METACAM Oral Suspension should be administered once daily at a dose of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) either mixed with food or placed directly into the mouth.

The syringe is calibrated to deliver the daily maintenance dose in pounds. See package insert for complete weight information.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:

As a class, cyclo-oxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal, kidney, or liver side effects. The most common side effects reported in field studies were vomiting and soft stool/diarrhea.  These are usually mild, but may be serious. If side effects occur, pet owners should halt therapy and contact their veterinarian. Pets should be evaluated for pre-existing conditions and currently prescribed medications prior to treatment with METACAM, then monitored regularly while on treatment. Concurrent use with another NSAID, corticosteroid, or nephrotoxic medication should be avoided.

METACAM Oral suspension is for use in dogs only. The safe use of METACAM Oral Suspension in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Please refer to the package insert for complete product information.
